Pitches built for Irish weather
Eco Pitch is a Galway company that builds hybrid grass and synthetic pitches, so clubs, schools and councils can keep playing through the winter. We run every job from the first site visit to handover.
The Eco Pitch hybrid carpet, finished
Natural grass grows through the Eco Pitch carpet. The carpet holds the roots, so the surface stands up to studs and the grass recovers between games. Hybrid Champion is rated for up to 30 hours of play a week.

Your ground
We meet you at the gate and walk the pitch.

Design
We measure it, check the drainage and give you a written quotation.

Digging out
The digger takes the old pitch down to the subsoil.

The stone goes in
A bed of stone goes down on the subsoil.

The drainage grid
The drainage grid is laid across the stone.

Geotextile and grit
The white geotextile goes over the grid, then a thin layer of finer stone and grit on top.

The soil goes back
The soil goes back in on top.

The carpet
The Eco Pitch carpet is rolled out over the soil.
Sand and seed
Sand and grass seed go on top of the carpet.
Ready to play
We mark the lines, put up the posts and leave you a care note.
We can start with your ground.
Site visit and quotationGrants for your pitch
The Government’s main grant for club pitches is the Community Sport Facilities Fund, which used to be called Sports Capital. It funds hybrid pitches. Applications open online on 19 October 2026 and close at 5pm on 26 February 2027.
Register on SPRAOI
Every application is made online on the Department’s system, SPRAOI. Clubs that applied in earlier rounds are already on it.
Up to €250,000
The grant pays up to 95% of the cost, so the club pays at least 5%. Each club can make one application.
Your ground sets the limit
For the full €250,000 the club must own the ground or have a registered lease with at least 10 years left. A shorter or unregistered lease lowers the limit. With less than 5 years left, or no lease, there is no grant for building work.
A quotation for each part of the job
The Department only funds the parts of a job that come with a quotation. After the site visit we give you a written quotation set out part by part, ready to send in.
Help with the application
If your club wants help or advice with the application, we go through it with you.
Wait for the approval in writing
Do not sign a contract or start any work until the Department’s approval arrives in writing.
Other grants
- GAA clubs can apply to their provincial council, such as Connacht GAA.
- Rugby clubs can apply to the IRFU’s facilities grant scheme.
- Rural clubs can look at CLÁR and LEADER.
- Once the Department approves the club’s project, donations of €250 or more can qualify for tax relief.
What we do
From the drainage under the pitch to the surface on top.
Questions clubs ask us

What is the difference between a hybrid pitch and an astro?
An astro is all plastic, with rubber crumb or another infill brushed in between the fibres. On a hybrid pitch the grass is real. It grows up through our carpet, and the carpet holds the roots, so the surface stands up to studs and recovers between games. It plays like grass because it is grass.
How quickly can you replace a worn goalmouth?
For a Gaelic goalmouth, it can be laid in the morning and you can play on it in the afternoon.
Do we have to dig up the pitch we have?
Not always. Hybrid Club goes over the pitch you already have, as long as its drainage works. Hybrid Champion is a full rebuild from the ground up. We tell you which suits your ground after we walk it.
How much will it cost?
We walk and measure the pitch first, then give you one written price for the whole job. The price depends on the size of the pitch, what is under it now, whether the drainage works, which surface you choose and how easy it is to get machines in.
We have an old astro with rubber crumb. Can you help?
Yes. We take the old crumb out and refurbish the surface, or replace it with one of our surfaces. From 17 October 2031 rubber crumb can no longer be sold in the EU, so a crumb pitch cannot be topped up after that.
Get us out to your ground
We walk the pitch with you, measure it and give you one written price.
